Overview
These non-medical services provided by our agency are performed by home health aides, who are paraprofessional members of the home care team.
They work under the supervision of a registered nurse and perform the home care services necessary to meet the patient’s needs. The home health aide will be assigned in a manner that promotes quality, continuity, and safety of a patient’s care.
PERSONAL CARE
Home Health Aides assist their patients in their personal tasks, such as bathing or dressing.
The following are some functions/responsibilities included in Personal Care (this assistance is not limited to these examples):
- Oral hygiene
- Hair Care-Shampoo
- Bathing
- Dressing and undressing
- Meal Preparation, (feeding assistance if needed)
- Toileting activities
- Meeting safety needs of patients and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, etc.)
- Ambulation and exercise according to the plan of care
- Bladder and Bowel incontinence
- Reminding to Take Medication, among others
HOMEMAKER
Home Health Aides assist their patients in daily living housekeeping tasks, such as laundry or washing dishes.
The following are some functions/responsibilities included in Homemaker (this assistance is not limited to these examples):
- Light housekeeping
- Changing bed linen
- Keeping patient's living area clean and orderly, as appropriate
- Doing patient's laundry, as appropriate
- Cleaning Bathroom
- Shopping (Grocery, Supplies, Personal Items, etc.)
COMPANION
Home Health Aides provide their patients with care by supervising and offering accompaniment.
The following are some functions/responsibilities included in Companion (this assistance is not limited to these examples):
- Accompanying Patient to medical appointments
- Accompanying Patient on Errands
- Supervising/Coaching/Cueing
- Diversional Activities
- Speaking/Reading
- Monitoring Patient Safety
- Walking Pets, among others
RESPITE
Caregiving is often emotionally and physically exhausting, leaving the person primarily responsible, feeling overwhelmed and in need of some time alone.
For those cases, Home Health Aides can also assist the family members by taking care of the patients, when the primary caregiver needs to take a break. The aide performs the same services covered by personal care, homemaker, and companion.
